At North Star Oregon, our day support activities are thoughtfully designed to provide our participants with enriching experiences that foster personal growth, skill development, and community integration. We believe in the power of engaging in a wide range of activities that not only bring joy but also enhance physical and emotional well-being. From the thrill of striking pins at the local bowling alley to the serene walks through the verdant landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, our participants revel in activities that stimulate both body and mind. Our outings to the local art studio in Corvallis, Oregon offer a canvas for creativity, where participants can express themselves through painting, crafting, and various arts. These activities are tailored to encourage self-expression and build confidence in a supportive group setting.
In addition to recreational pursuits, North Star Oregon is deeply committed to instilling a sense of civic responsibility and connection with the community through volunteering opportunities. Our participants take pride in giving back, whether it's lending a hand at the Corvallis Daytime Drop in Center, local food banks, participating in environmental cleanup efforts, or assisting at animal shelters. These volunteer experiences not only contribute to the wellbeing of our community but also provide our participants with a profound sense of achievement and belonging. By integrating our participants into these positive social frameworks, we cultivate an environment where everyone can make a difference and experience the joy of collaboration and service.
Our Day Support Activities (DSA) program is meticulously designed to empower individuals with the skills they need to actively and meaningfully participate in the community. At the core of DSA is the development of competencies that enhance community involvement and communication. We focus on practical aspects such as using community resources effectively, fostering self-awareness and self-control, and improving both verbal and non-verbal communication skills. This includes everyday social interactions, from maintaining appropriate eye contact and respecting personal space to engaging in conversations with consideration for taking turns and discussing age-appropriate topics.
Our attentive care within the DSA framework is centered around supporting participants in learning to navigate social nuances—initiating and concluding social interactions smoothly, recognizing and avoiding potentially unsafe situations, and understanding concepts like "stranger danger." We also provide tools to help individuals coordinate their activities efficiently using common devices and references such as watches, phones, computers, and community signs. Each participant in our program has personalized, measurable goals outlined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP), ensuring a clear path towards enhancing their ability to thrive within their community.
We offer IDD Day Support Activity services to all types of intellectual and developmental disabilities including but not limited to:
Intellectual Disability (ID)
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Aspergers
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
Cerebral Palsy (CP)
Downs Syndrome
Please Note: Having a listed condition does not automatically guarantee eligibility for our services. The final determination will be made by the county eligibility specialist.
The essence of our DSA program is not just to assist in skill development but to foster an environment where individuals can forge and strengthen personal relationships. We strive to identify and create opportunities where our participants can share their unique interests, culture, talents, and gifts with others. Through our program, individuals are encouraged to explore activities they enjoy and to discover new, engaging experiences that connect them with the broader community. We support active participation in clubs, associations, and organizations, including roles in leadership and decision-making. Our ultimate goal is to equip our participants with the independence to initiate, plan, and partake in community activities, enriching their lives and the lives of those around them.
To receive for our services you must meet the Office of Developmental Disability Services criteria of having an intellectual or developmental disability and be eligible for K-Plan services. If you have any questions about working with us, feel free to get in touch with us. If you think that you would like to work with us, please contact your case manager, who will facilitate a meeting to determine if our services can meet your needs. If determined we are a good fit, your case manager will add the service to your ISP, authorizing North Star Oregon to work with you.

The activity schedule may include activities such as: art classes, bowling, volunteering, or going on different community outings such as going to local events, to the beach, to the mall, or to the park. Currently, we have a group that meets in Albany and a group that meets in Corvallis. There is a centralized meeting spot, however some transportation can be provided depending on the availability of drivers as well as the location of pick up/drop off.
